In Warklinika, the player will be in charge of a temporary hospital in the middle of a war zone, where more injured people and soldiers come to seek treatment, even from the enemy.
But with limited doctors and supplies, you must decide who will be treated and who will be abandoned. This is my current student work for my Master's degree at RMIT University, with significant production done by myself.
WarKlinika has won various honours and awards at indie game fairs. I would like to thank the Busan Indie Connect Festival in Korea and International Serious Play in Canada for recognising my work.

It is clear that over the past two years, the Russians have deliberately used the millions of deaths and casualties to incite Ukrainian resentment. This war makes sense. Let's go back in time to 21 February 2022. I was in Xi'an, China when I met my friend Nikolai, a Ukrainian student. We went to a house party with our friends; it was our best night.
However, historical events are unpredictable. By 24 January, Putin had announced that the Russian Federation had launched a "special military operation" against Ukraine. My friend Nikolai was understandably panicked and anxious, constantly in touch with his family in Kyiv via phone and social media. But the night before, we were happily partying, and his emotions brought me face-to-face with the reality of a life-and-death war for the first time. The atmosphere that day was so terrifying that everyone was afraid to speak.
gameplay and iteration
The first prototype used paper models for game mechanics. As the mechanics improved, I tried to create them with code. I didn't add AI logic for NPC characters at first because it was too difficult.
The third image shows a 3D prototype of the new game mechanics. It has a preliminary NPC logic framework where NPCs can execute commands based on instructions.
I lacked mature thinking mechanics in my early games and stopped thinking because of technical obstacles. Through this period of study, I realized that in game design, it is important to be creative and not to be afraid of adding mature mechanisms.

Re-new Vision
The initial prototype was made in gameplay using paper-made draft models to derive the game mechanics. When the mechanics matured, I tried to implement them programmatically. In the early versions, there was a lack of AI logic for the NPC characters, as this was too difficult to implement for me at that time. So, I decided to ask for help from professionals to give me advice and ways to implement the NPC logic mechanics.
In the third image, you can see a prototype of the new gameplay mechanics we created. This prototype has an initial framework for NPC logic, where NPCs can execute commands based on instructions, which was a great breakthrough for me.
Reflectively, I lacked a mature thinking mechanism in my early gameplay and always stopped thinking because of technical barriers. Through this long period of study and expert anxiety, I have realised that in game design, you need to be creative, not get hung up on whether or not it can be achieved, and not be afraid of adding mature mechanisms.
at exhibition
Warklinika was exhibited at the Busan Indie Connect Festival 2024 in Busan, South Korea, with a limited number of players at the exhibition to try out the game.
Most of the players experienced the pressure of medical care in a war situation through a 5-minute game, but strategy management games require detailed tutorials, however I am not currently able to fund the production of the guide function, so I need to teach the players the experience every time manually.
